On the way up to the lighthouse yesterday we noticed this rather odd spot for a wasps’ nest; right in the middle of a stop sign. Even weirder is that the hexagonal comb in the nest exactly matches the pattern of the reflective material on the sign.
Any ideas on wasps’ prefer to build on surfaces that mimic the structure of their nests? Or was this just a random occurrence.

Interesting that they decided to make a nest on something with the same pattern.
Nice find.
